i have been dealing with a lot of personal issues

one thing that has been on my mind for a while now is this website. when i first was introduced to this place, it meant something. it was a place where the artists were. it was where you could see talent on the rise. you could see what trends were flowing in the artistic community. it was where you could see some god damned amazing artists...be they traditional, digital, photographer, flash, whatever.

it was inspiring.

being around people like this, made you want to do more, be more.

then, slowly, over time, it began to change. the people hosting this site started changing little things to make it more like facebook or tumbler what have you. they started charging more..and giving less. they had people in positions of power and or authority being able to block and or ban people at will without being held accountable. people i know and followed for years...got filtered out...

fewer and fewer artists are coming here.

it is akin to being in a small town and watching each business leave one after another.

im not sure how long it has been like this, but i am curious, am i the only one that is seeing this?

is this website serving its purpose?

i am curious...

the hamilton show, has come and gone. i got to see some amazing people again,  if you want to see the pics, drop me a message and i will link you to the page where they are

to those still here, still watching, stay inspired

greetings, it is me, rich known as jack
hey

Anime north 2016 has come and gone...and time to tell how it went

the layout was different...which was ok...we still had a huge black curtain wall behind us which was not cool...but there was no one behind it which was good. i found it somewhat difficult to navigate as the had booths interrupting alley spaces so you couldnt just go from one side of the room to the other, you often had to navigate through three isles to get to your destination, which led to a lot of congestion...

they implemented a nee photographing policy which confused a lot of people. in their paperwork and online they said 'no pictures in the dealers room' which had me kinda apprehensive. it took like 10 minutes of navigating their web page on facebook to find out that they meant no photo shooting...like big props and lighting in the isle ways, no paid photoshoots unless you are one of the people that they endorse. cause i work in the dealers room, and i dont get to go far beyond that room, no photos would be bad...but that is moot. i did get some pics, even though my camera was fighting me...again...
link to them can be found... here
www.facebook.com/rich.k.jack/m…

i got to see some very important artist peoples,
The Marc, from Rice hat
The Dragon Mango crew,
Sarah, repping the asylum squad
Michael Pearson, repping the badass villain he is
Craig, who works in the trenches with me showcasing the amazing new Pook and Skowl book
skowl.blogspot.ca/
Lady kate, the editor
Jen, the maker of squishy goodness (and her awesome assistant)
Wolfie, my amazing friend who came out all the way from British Columbia by bus
the awesome people of red moon
the uber amazing lady meeshka, you rock
Steven David and teh misses, always rocks when you are in the area
Sean and Manah, plotting to catch you when shit is less crazy
Remy, the amazing lady that made me my awesome natsu cosplay
and many more i am certain...if your name aint on the list...appologies, my memory aint what it used to be

food stuff...
was interesting, cause they like closed 4 restaurants that were popular, but we managed to find one that was, one, open, two, not ridiculously overbooked, three, had good eats...much approved....love to fox trot bistro

hoteling,
where do i begin...
i knew it was going to be...an adventure...when to book, i had to stutter speak to confirm every step because of the lack of employees that could both speak and understand english...when i got to the destination which was about a 5 min drive to event, not too bad...go through the process of making sure everything was in order...this took longer than necessary to me...but i was in a car for five hrs...so i wrote that off...we get in elevator to get bags into room...the hotel was divided into 2...aka..the elevator took us to the right floor but the wrong side...that was goofy...but whatever...we got into the right elevator and got into our room...
the room was..nice...not small, but there was something...well off...they had a window...in the washroom...that overlooked the bedroom. i am not sure why they had this sort of porno window there...it was mildly confusing but whatever...

the dealers...
there were substantially less poster walls, which i liked, but there was a seriously flood of mass produced products there, the likes of which you could find like, anywhere. and there was lots of it. there were multiple vendors that were selling "Pop!" figures exclusively. the plush market was meh...lots of stuff that was again mass produced. not a lot of people making their own which was unfortunate, but seems to be a trend that has been gathering steam lately. lots of good stores and venues represented, lots of love and respect

the crowd...
not really sure how to word it. it was a good crowd. lots of fans, lots of cosplayers. but shoppers...it was hit or miss. many of the people there were 'shopping list hunters' when it came to spending. aka they had a list of items they wanted and werent spending much beyond that. some were there just to show off their amazing cosplay efforts (mad love to all of you crazy otakus) i found it mildly impressive how there was such a HUGE flux of fans for either camp One Piece...aka the show that will never end...or camp Fairy Tail...mad love for both of these stories and the fans that were showcasing this were awesome...pics are listed in the link on facebooks

all in all, it was good, but something was amiss, im not sure what it was, maybe if you were there you could feel it or see it...but it was still a lot of fun. i got to see some people that i normally cant due to distance. it was a pleasant distraction and i appreciated it. it is still THE show i would recommend fans/artists/vendors to check out as there is opportunity there

how was your anime north?

stay inspired...until next year

toronto comicon has come and gone once again.
i am happy to say, it was a solid showing for the Rebel Rabbit!
this makes me happy as the FanEx brand is still very heavy on the fanart side of things and is not a focused market. a serious congrats to you Craig. you stepped up, you fucking owned it, and for what it may be worth, i am fucking proud of you for everything you have done.

that being said, Pook and Skowl had its first showing on teh con circuit, the next launch show will be Anime North. if you saw it at the comic con, this is another chance to get the first printing of this epic project. he really outdid himself, and this is something you all will want to see and will want to own...unbiasedly speaking.

to those of you who wish to check it out...
it is featured online...
skowl.blogspot.ca/
it is also posted onto facebook

for those of you who were at the show, i did get some photos...
but due to the complete lack of photo editing software, due to my last comp dying, i cannot touch them up, so they are posted to facebook as is...if you want to check them out...
www.facebook.com/rich.k.jack/m…
that link should hook you up

we will have something...new in store for Anime North...
and i will let you ponder what it may be (you can even guess if you wish

that being said...
thank everyone that came out to comic con, thank you to everyone that showcased your love for everything geek, we look forward to seeing you all again soon...

after a brief hiatus away from the internet...
i am back

what was the reason i was gone? i was visiting a friend of mine in BC. it was my first trip out of province...in that direction...but now i can say i have been from one coast t the other.

the other reason i have been afk...was due to some irritating computer problems (which a very good friend tried to help with...BUT...as she was like one key stroke away from completing the repairs...all went dark...complete hard drive failure...she took the beast apart to see what the problem was...it seems as though the motherboard was burned and the hard drive itself was overheating and was about to explode...fun fact...it was my carry on luggage...under my seat, between my legs...that kind of adventure i do not need in my life) but she did her best and did help me get back online...but i am still getting hit by little things...like i cannot skype for reasons...i cannot photo edit...for reasons...and i cannot word process yet...for reasons...also...fun fact apparently...the comp i had...was under a recall notice...a notice the store i bought it from failed to mention...might have affected the sale...oh well...

one step forward five steps back...and here i am

the first show of the year will be a toronto show
there the first pook and skowl book should be ready

i am still working on some production issues...ideally everything should be shiny by show time...will do my best to not let people down.

but until my tech issues are resolved...will be a little light posting here or anywhere
but i am still here...still trying

got to visit one of the people on my 'i need to travel to see this person in person list' one down a few more to go

i will be seeking a special commission
just for me

the premise will be a 'tea party' of sorts
there will be a rather large table that will seat about 16

the first commission will be the actual setting, aka, the table, no real background per say, just focusing on the table and the food stuff items that would be there, once this is done, will be getting various artists to do a character or two in each assigned spot

if you want to take on such a feat, drop me a note and i will discuss the details in more theme specific detail

last show report
con bravo was a hit. it was fun but it has always been fun, ever since i was first introduced to it. the vendors are epic, the crowd is so much fun to be around. cant wait for next year...

but...
before then
a special shout out to all of my friends that will be working hard at Otakuthon. i hope that you all have a great show, i hope you sell out of stuff and that you come back with epic stories of win.

In other news, the next show on deck for me...
Montreal Comic con. sept 12-14...
Not gonna lie, kind of nervous as it will be my first time at that venue, but will be there with the amazingly talented Craig Ferguson...and guest starring the amazing Natorra Ferguson (no relation) if you are in Montreal that weekend...we will definitely need need want to see you there.

production...
writing wise, i have been on an aggressive push to finish the writing for the Bo'Glin series. we have been marketing and selling this story for 5+ years. i needed it complete...i needed to be able to tell the supporters of what we do, that project started...project completed. you take a chance on me...you get three things...beginning...middle...an ending! i am now at the stage where i am one chapter away from fulfilling that promise. for those curious...the series is six books...writing wise...as i update this...i am on the 29th of 30th chapter for this series.

to those of you that watch and support me
thank you.

we managed to survive another AN...
the layout was different...the crowd was different, will take some time for me to figure out the chemistry for that, but we will be working hard to make Anime North the best show ever...again...we do have projects in the works to make next year more boss so if you missed this year, many did, and some said they wouldnt go...but we will have some fun stuff on deck next year for those that brave the elements and come and see

also posted a sampler of the Ottawa comicon pics
i was working there helping out the amazing people at Romantically Apocalyptic. was awesome seeing so many familiar faces and seeing so many people showing such mad love for original content...that was seriously boss.

Ottawa Comicon was...different. the crowd felt very much like a fanexpo only a degree smaller. the parking was ridiculous...but the vendors, the fans, they offset much of the madness. i do not honestly know if i have enough product to represent at THAT venue, but is something i will have to look into now that my ottawa show that i was planning to be at Naru was cancelled. as it stands, there are plans in the works to potentially try Ganime. i have heard good things about...

on deck,
Con Bravo in hamilton. july 18th weekend. we will be having book one in printed format there, some pook stuff, as well as the many new innovative items by the rebel rabbit peoples. will also be seeking to visit and see people in the gta, so if you needing photo help or what have you let me know...

the next photos will be Ottawa Comic con, featuring RA, Zee Captain and all the people showing RA mad love
then will be a sampler of the Anime North pics...ideally they will ALL be online before the next show is up!

Rich known as Jack

the chibi promotion is on the go
we are starting the production of the ID cards for each of the VERY important original characters done by some very amazing talented artists. (when the are posted be sure to check out the artist pages and show them some love as they worked very hard to create these lovable original characters)

as they are completed, they will be posted
so study these amazing characters...
remember them,
because when we are doing this promotion at the shows we work...it may help you!

for those getting ready to submit your chibis, make sure they are 300dpi, make sure that you include the Name of the character, the Name YOU want to be known by, the website people can learn more about your character at, and perhaps a quote that your character likes to say.

i have been dealing with some set backs,
i havent been able to run with things as much as i would like, but i know that is not always a bad thing...if i run with too many things i burn out and then i am not useful to anyone.

the first show i will be at THIS year will be Anime North, and i am fighting hard to make sure it is the BEST show EVER. it hasnt had that energy for a while...i am hoping that THIS will be the year we bring it BACK!

we are nearing the end of February and stuff will be happening...soon

as i mentioned, we are spear heading a chibi cross promotional project
those of you who are interested, this is sort of a reminder, we will be needing these as we will need to have all teh images, so that we can make our little poster, and we will need to confirm all of the important data about YOUR characters, and where people can learn more about them

we will be working to get the images processed and i will be forwarding them to each of you before they are posted as we will want to make sure that everything is as we say, perfect

those of you who have submitted already, we will be working hard to get the promo cards set up!

i am Rich known as Jack

i have been seeing a lot of posts here in DA recently, a 'i am real' campaign

apparently there are art thieves that like to steal stuff, pretend they are something they are not and go out of their way to hurt people. it has been going on for quite some time...some people feel entitled to just take...

i have been very privileged and fortunate...

i have been in my business, Jack and Pookie, for seven years, i have had the serious good fortune to work with so many talented people, so many inspiring people that seriously inspire me...may seem like a corny tag line when i say to people 'say inspired' but it is something i seriously mean...

what we do, what all artists do, we work hard hours, we put more into our work than we do ourselves at times...sacrificing diet, sleep and sanity at times...all for something bigger, to show our passion in what we do and what we can do and what we one day hope to do...and that is seriously hard work, work that many dont see or appreciate...

i see it

i appreciate it

i count myself very lucky, that i have had the good fortune to work with so many of you...had the good fortune to entertain some of you with my playful lunacy...and had the good fortune to show off what so many of you can do...

i do like photography... but to be honest, i really do suck at 'selfies' i cant ever seem to take a picture of me that i like. but, i am sort of good with words...so to those of you who know me, or know of me...

do know that
I am very real,
i am very sincere and up front
and
i look forward to seeing all of you at the shows and conventions and online
YOU, all of you, make what I do, worth while
